Zed Layson was born and raised on the island of Barbados-- he is 5th
generation Barbadian. Zed began surfing at the age of 7 and has traveled the
world as a competitive surfer for more than 24 years.
In 1990, Zed competed in the World Surfing Championships in Japan,
and also competed in the 1994 World Surfing Championships in Brazil.
Zed placed 17th out of 120, ranking him in the top 20 Amateurs in the world.
Zed has gained a lot of great experiences surfing and competing all
over South America, the United States and of course, the Caribbean.

As a 14 year member of the Barbados National Surfing Team, Zed competed
against some of the top surfers in the world including Kelly Slater,
Taylor Knox and Pat O'Connell, many of whom still visit Barbados to surf Soup
Bowl in the Fall. Zed has retired from full time competition so that he can
focus on running his surf school but still competes in selective events locally
and in the Caribbean.

Over the past 5 years, Zed has been teaching students to surf in Barbados
and the United States. He has dedicated his life to a career in surf
coaching and is very passionate about his sport and sharing it with
others. He has successfully combined his love of surf & travel and he's made many
great friends through the years.

ensure that you are surfing the right breaks at the best times. Zed is an
experienced and highly qualified instructor and is a Royal Life Saving
Society (RLSS) Certified Life Guard. A true Water Man in every sense of
the word.
